My Favorite Mascaras

As a makeup artist I get asked A LOT about my go-to mascara. Even more so now that my company just released a ground breaking serum that makes your lashes look longer. The truth is, I don’t have just one! I mix it up everyday depending on how I am feeling, where I am going and how many coats I want to apply.

A lot of times I will also apply one coat of one mascara and second coat of a different one. Some formulas and brushes are better suited for length while others are better for volume. The trick is to find a formula that come with a brush you love.

Here are my top nine picks to make your lashes look luscious!

Side note- expensive doesn’t ALWAYS mean better! I have found tons of drugstore mascaras that work just as well– and sometimes better– than high end!

screen-shot-2016-12-27-at-7-34-16-pm

MAYBELLINE sensational

I love the brush on this one– it really allows you to get into the corners and lift your lashes.

WET N WILD max volume

The cheapest and the BEST drugstore mascara I have found! The brush separates and this formula never seems to clump.

MAYBELLINE push up falsies

This formula is thick– but I like it since it allows me to give two quick coats with great coverage. The brush also separates and lifts.

COVER GIRL supersizer

The best thing about this brush is that it is small. You’ll be able to reach the inner corner lashes, which will make your eyes seem larger and more open.

BOBBI BROWN extreme party mascara

Bobbi didn’t lie- this mascara is extreme for sure. The brush (and even the tube) and so thick and may feel funny when you’re applying. But two coats of this formula and your lashes will POP!

TOO FACED better than sex

A cult favorite… for a reason! Try and and you’ll see why.

LANCOME grandiose extreme

Doesn’t this brush look so funny? As strange as it may seem it is actually one of the best! You will be able to find every lash you have while lifting the out corners AND getting into the insider corner with ease.

BENEFIT they’re real

An all-time favorite of mine. I love using this formula on my clients. It never clumps, isn’t too thick and the brush is just perfection.

L’OREAL superstar

I use this one EVERY SINGLE DAY. My #1 current favorite. Sometimes I use side #1 (the primer) but most days  just apply side #2 and I find that this brush and formula gives great volume AND length.

What is your go-to mascara? Which one are you excited to try here? Tell me in the comments!

Snow Storm 101

Time spent at college in upstate New York has prepped me for a lifetime of stylish snow storm dressing. It is tempting to throw on your rattiest sweatpants and sweater when the weather takes a turn for the blustery. But sometimes but you have no choice but to get on with your day and be a REAL person (you know, go out in public instead of watch 12 episodes of Rock of Love on your bed with a bag of bagel chips. Wait, no one else did this? Come on… just me??).

Here are my winter essentials for mastering the cold, the snow and the shoveling while still looking cute and staying warm.

snowstorm

ONE

Just because it is snowing doesn’t mean you don’t need some fab sunnies. I find snow days to be more blinding than beach days. Also, these Quay sunglasses are perfect if you want to skip makeup and hide behind a rosy glow.

TWO

Nothing is better than a warm pair of cozy socks. I especially love these by Aeire because you can wear them with boots!

THREE

So you may have to shovel a little snow. No worries– your hands will be super warm with these gloves. The best part is that they have a storage pocket so you can keep your keys or chapstick with you at all times without having to worry if they will fall out of your coat and into the snow.

FOUR

I can’t imagine a cuter hat. Pom-poms make everything a little sweeter.

FIVE

I am OBSESSED with Loft’s line, Lou + Greg! It is an entire section of the store dedicated to cute, comfy and stylish sportswear pieces that look so much better than those ratty sweats. This top is SO SOFT and also really cozy. Perfect to layer under a vest as well or with a long sleeve tee underneath. It is lightweight so you won’t be sweating bullets but still warm enough to keep the chill out.

SIX

This scarf is a total splurge item, for sure. But just LOOK at how cozy the model looks in it. I can’t wait to wrap myself up in it.

SEVEN

A tank?? As a winter essential? I included this one from Old Navy because I wear one every single day– snow or not! They are the perfect weight and length for layering or wearing under an open cardi. Plus, there are so many colors to choose from and they wash really well. I am wearing an olive green one as I type. Stock up– at $12 each you can get a bunch and they will carry you through the next 3 seasons!

EIGHT

THESE LEGGINGS ARE $11!!!!! Let me repeat. SALE ALERT! $11 cozy, comfy leggings! I love this brand because everything they make is super warm but also insanely soft and buttery. You can snag these thermal leggings at a fraction of the regular price. You KNOW I scooped up a few. They are perfect for the winter because they are thicker than your regular leggings but won’t make you sweat or overheat. Can’t recommend them enough!

NINE

Last but not least, my holy grail of winter footwear. Forget Uggs– seriously forget ’em! These are JUST as comfortable and roomy but are MADE for snow and rain. They are weatherproof, so you can wear them out in the slush and not worry if the suede will get ruined. They are about 1/4 the price of Uggs and come in a ton of cute colors and styles. I am wearing this pair right now. I wear mine with socks, but just like Uggs you can opt not to. They truly are the BEST winter “suede” boot I have found.

What are you winter essentials? Tell me in the comments!

Off to make some iced coffee and play in the snow. Because no matter HOW cold it gets in New York I will always drink iced. #guzzle

Starter Makeup Kit from Sephora

Recently I have been getting a lot of messages asking which products are the best to build a basic makeup kit. Here are my favorites that will help you master a perfect look, day or night!

I’ve also included a few pro tips on how to apply products and how to get your makeup to last all night!

To make shopping easier, all of these products are available through Sephora!

SIMPLE MAKEUP STARTER KIT  MUSEPH

ONE

Benefit Gimme Brow is the easiest, most fool-proof way to fill in your brows! I love the easy to use wand which is packed with a fiber-gel that will shape, define and fill in your brows for a natural, realistic look.

TWO

Too Faced Soleil Bronzer has been a staple in my professional kit for years. It is a gorgeous matter bronzer (no shimmer or sparkle here!) that is never orange. Plus it smells like chocolate.

THREE

If you follow my blog or my Instagram/Facebook you probably have seen me rave about this tinted moisturizer before. Years after first discovering this product I am still loving it. Laura Mercier’s lightweight, oil free tinted moisturizer is a great alternative to foundation. It feels fresh on the skin, plus it has SPF 20!

FOUR

If you are searching for a new foundation I would suggest you try out Luminous Silk by Armani! This is unlike traditional “heavy” foundation formulas– it is lightweight, buildable and doesn’t crack, dry out or look chalky. The end result of a few thin layers is a gorgeous “airbrushed” dewy finish. I love applying this foundation with a damp beauty blender.

FIVE

Urban Decay’s setting spray should be the last step you take when applying makeup. It will ensure that your artistry stays put even through heat and sweat. If you’re still using that old “hairspray” trick (you know who you are!!) use this instead. It is much better for your skin! This is also a staple in my pro kit– I can’t be without it!

SIX

There is nothing worse than mastering the perfect eye look… and then have your shadow creasing after just a few hours. Using an eye primer will help your shadow go on smoother, more vibrant and last much longer. I love Urban Decay’s formula because it is not drying or chalky. Whenever you apply shadow be sure to PRIME with this product FIRST.

SEVEN

The secret to preventing foundation from settling into fine lines is to first use a primer designed for large pores and/or fine lines (I like this one from Makeup Forever). After you prime your entire face, apply foundation and THEN SET IT with a translucent setting powder. I love the texture and finish of Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Powder. It looks white but it goes on sheer and will work on all skin tones. Apply with a fluffy brush or a powder puff.

EIGHT

I have purchased several of this concealers in 2015 and I am positive I will be purchasing more in the coming year! I love this creamy, easy to blend formula from NARS. It not only covers and conceals dark circles but it is wonderful for highlighting. Be sure to SET your concealer with powder (mentioned above in number seven) to prevent creasing and settling into fine lines.

NINE

Speaking of highlighting! Some days all you’ll want to wear is concealer and mascara (note- I didn’t include mascara here because I find that drugstore brands are just as wonderful as anything you can get in Sephora. Try this one and I promise you will think the same!). Other times you’ll want to be full on GLAM. That is where this product comes into play. I am obsessed with Becca highlighters but this shade in particular is so gorgeous. It is a cross between a rose gold and a moonstone. Apply a little bit top the top of your cheeks, nose, chin and cupid’s bow for a “lit from within” glow.

TEN

Blush can sometimes seem intimidating. Where to apply? Which brush to use? Is that hot pink really going to look good on me? Not to worry– NARS blush is easy to apply and the shades are super complimentary. Orgasm, Sin and Dolce Vita are some of my favorites. Apply with an angled blush brush.

ELEVEN

I have mentioned this Tarte palette on STYLEgloss once before. Can you tell I love it?? The shades are all you need to create daytime, nighttime, natural and dramatic looks. All of the shadows are matte, which will make blending much easier. The middle row contain four of my all-time most favorite colors to use on eyes. This is the only palette you will ever need. Apply shadow in the crease with a fluffy brush and shadow on the lid with a stiffer, flat brush.

TWELVE

Finally, top it all off with a great lip color! I love these Sephora lip creams. They last all day, are not drying and are only $14! Numbers 5, 13 an 14 are my personal favorites.

Do you have a product from Sephora that you love? Let me know about it!

My favorite makeup products of 2015!

Here are most favorite makeup products of 2015! A mix of stand-by staples and new additions have made the list, and I am sure you will love them as well. Whether you are still searching for the perfect gift or want to create a fabulous New Years Eve look, these products are going to get the job done!

MAKEUP1

ONE

Hands down the most beautiful foundation! A dewy formula allows it to lay gorgeously on the skin and give an airbrushed finished. A bit of an investment but worth it for special days/events.

TWO

I have been suggesting this lip color all year long, and for a good reason! It is long-lasting and the color is the perfect shade of on-trend mauve. It happens to also look great on many different skin tones.

THREE

Loreal’s Infallible shadows are some of the drugstore’s most highly pigmented, high performing cosmetics. I love how smooth and creamy these powder shadows are. Iced Latte is my favorite shade right now, but they are all beautiful, rich metallic shades.

FOUR

NARS blush has been a staple in both my person and professional kit for years. My favorite shades include Orgasm (great for all skin tones), Deep Throat, and Angelika.

FIVE

A fluffy, full powder brush is a makeup-bag necessity! Use it for contouring, bronzer, setting powder or finishing powder. Sigma was one of my favorite brands to purchase brushes from in 2015.

SIX

Marc Jacobs has managed to create a refreshing, hydrating primer that not only smoothes the skin but keeps it feeling fresh all day long. Makeup will stay on longer and your skin will look more youthful.

SEVEN

This is my current favorite palette. I have been suggesting this one to my clients for weeks now because the colors are neutral yet on trend. It makes a perfect gift for the makeup-lover in your life. The mix of mattes and shimmers will help them create countless looks.

EIGHT

Setting your foundation and concealer is key to extending the life and longevity of your handiwork. I love the feel of Laura Mercier’s translucent powder– so silky! It will prevent creasing and cracking and create a smoother surface for brush, bronzer and highlighter.

NINE

Speaking of highlighters… this is by FAR my absolute favorite. I just discovered it a few months ago and it has replaced my holy-grail highlighter in my pro kit. Perfect for that New Year’s Eve glow!

What makeup products have you used and reused all year long?

I can’t think of a more luxurious gift than these Christian Louboutin polishes. Sure, they are totally frivolous but so delicious, who could resist?

Kendra Scott is one of my favorite brands to gift. It is hard to not love this delicate abalone pendant. It is perfect to wear everyday or layered with longer necklaces.

NINE

Rose? Yes way! Just a fun iPhone case for the woman that has it all.

A handful of my favorite things right now…

Some for my closet and a few for gifting!

ONE

Fuzzy socks are key this time of year! I always like to keep a few pairs

on hand for easy stocking stuffers that are always put to good use!

TWO

An expensive looking bag with a not so expensive price tag.

This Sole Society find is under $65 and comes in two versatile colors.

THREE

Holiday time means great beauty gift sets and MAC does not disappoint this year.

I love this boxed lipgloss wardrobe. A great gift for your favorite makeup junkie!

FOUR

Full disclosure– I am OBSESSED with these booties! I am partial to the black and the grey,

but every color is fabulous. They are cool, edgy and will complete all your holiday outfits.

FIVE

By now we all know my love for plaid blanket scarfs. I love this color combo plus

they make a great “one size fits all” for any person on your list.

SIX

Buy these now and thank me later! A thick fleece-lined legging with a silky finish will take you

How holiday is this sweater? Mushy, cozy, and warm this knit will carry you well

into the colder winter months. I want one in ever color!

Pair this cape with the Marc Fisher booties from above,

those fleece leggings and a silky black top… instant outfit!

NINE

These are sneakers. And they are merlot. And leather. There is nothing more to say!

Go get ’em! And maybe a pair for your most stylish BFF!

Which is your favorite?! What are you buying this month?! Let me know!

Coat Check… Under $150!

It’s just about 70 degrees in New York today.

Yes, it’s November 3rd.

No, this is not normal.

But soon enough we will be wishing it was this 70 degrees again. Winters in New York have been pretty brutal these past few years– super cold and extra snowy! During these months fashion sometimes takes a back seat because you just don’t care what you look like; you just want to stay warm! Here are my picks for great winter coats that are not only styling but figure flattering AND under $150!

Land’s End Wool Coat, $79.97

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 1.59.11 PM

There is nothing more ladylike than a well-structured wool coat in a bright color. This one is warm, classy and will never go out of style. Plus, it’s on sale!

BB Dakota Ombre Coat, $105.00

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 2.01.31 PM

How FUN is this coat? You could just wrap yourself up in this on a cold winter’s day and still look chic AND stay warm.

a.n.a. Side Tab Puffer Coat, $131.99

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 2.03.49 PM

The side tab details on this puffer jacket ensure that you don’t add bulk to your frame. It will fit and flatter all different shapes and sizes.

Ivanka Trump, $99.99

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 2.05.55 PM

Sometimes in the middle of winter you just NEED to wear a down coat even though it might not look the most fashionable option in your closet. This style is great when you want to look put together while still staying warm. The length is also just right– not too long but enough coverage on the behind. The clasp details at the chest elevate the look.

Lorian Faux Leather Coat, $139.99

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 2.08.40 PM

I love the look of leather sleeves on a wool coat. It takes a classic style and adds just enough edge. This version is affordable and has a great silhouette that is figure flattering.

Susan Graver Puffer Coat, $77

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 2.11.20 PM

I purchased this coat for myself a few days ago. Although it is a puffer it is super thin and designed so that there is no added bulk on the chest area. Your figure stays proportionate because of the faux wool panel design. It is also made with a windguard so that you can keep warm even on the coldest of days.

Longline Wool-Blend Coat, $57.90

Screen Shot 2015-11-03 at 2.14.44 PM

A great option for those of you that live in milder temps. This swing coat gives that relaxed feel– almost like an oversized wool blazer. Great to wear over your oversized sweaters and tops because there is so much extra room.
